Transferable skills we value
Your military experience has equipped you with a powerful set of skills — many of which are directly applicable to roles at Royal Mail. We recognise and value the qualities that service leavers, veterans, and reservists bring to our organisation. Here are just a few examples of how your skills translate into our world:
Leadership
Manage delivery teams, supervise operations, or lead change initiatives.
Logistics & Planning
You’ve coordinated supply chains, transport, and mission planning,
so you could also:
Manage route optimisation, delivery scheduling and operational efficiency.
Technical Expertise
You’ve maintained and repaired military vehicles, equipment or systems,
so you could also:
Work as a fleet technician, a design or automation maintenance engineer, or a tech specialist.
Discipline & Reliability
so you could also:
Ensure timely deliveries, safety compliance and ensure consistent performance and service.
Adaptability & Resilience
Thrive in a fast-paced role, responding to change and solving problems on the go.
Communication & Teamwork
You’ve coordinated diverse teams and managing multiple stakeholders,
so you could also:
Collaborate across departments, support customers and your team, and lead with clarity.
Support for our Service Leavers

If you’re a reservist or cadet volunteer - or looking for a role that supports becoming one – we’ve got your back. At Royal Mail we offer up to two weeks paid leave for annual training or military commitments. Reservists also benefit from an additional unpaid leave allowance for travel to essential weekend camps. It’s our way of recognising your dedication, both in and out of uniform.

At Royal Mail, your growth matters. Whether you’re just starting out on civvy street or ready to take the next step in your career, we offer you a wide range of learning and development opportunities to help you build the career you want. With support from the Royal Mail Academy, you’ll have access to hands-on experience to structured training to help you progress, gain new skills, excel in your role - or even change direction entirely.
